WHY DO YOU STUDY? REASON OR PURPOSE

studying

Why do you study?  Why do you ever read for those exams? Why do you aim for an high score in your test?  I guess its cause of your purposeful thirst right? Or wait! Is it cause you were promised a new dress or the 3rd Edition of the PlayStation if you perform well in your test and exams? Gosh! I knew it!

So, some of you actually study cause of the temporal stuffs you tend to gain, but what if you weren’t promised any of those, will you actually strive for an “A”? ,will you pick up your books in your leisure time without

delay or procrastination?. Me? You think i was like that too? Nah! As a kid, I wasn’t promised anything if I

had an ‘A’ or even an ‘A++’ if there was anything like that. The only time I was really promised a thing

was when I switched my educational focus to a very not so beautiful girl in my class then and had a little

drop in grade, and that was a couple knocks and a little bit of forced dieting.

Oh! It wasn’t like I  was fat,it just meant I’ll get my grubs on a little less times each day if it ever happened again. Now I can really hear you asking me why I studied then?. OK I’ll tell you. I think I studied then because my Mama told me that my only chance of ever becoming that guy who wears a white overall and has the sacred right to stick a syringe into a patient’s butt without being arrested is by studying hard. That was my purpose.

I’m not saying the fact that your Dad promised you the latest iPhone edition or any other gadget if you had a good grade is a bad thing i mean ‘wow!’ you’re such a lucky kid, but that should not be the reason why you study. That should just be

a medium to propel you in your already aspired purpose, because if anytime you get on that PS 4 loading Pro Evolution Soccer 2015

and the controller already feels like a laminated sheet of Hardcore paper(a certificate), you should know you’ve placed the full stop

on the wrong side of the sentence and you probably still have a long way to go. In comparison, you can be related to a soccer pitch with 22 players without a goal post!

Pointless! Aimless!. So, next time you pick up a notebook or a textbook to read, make sure you reassess your aim. Make sure you’re doing so for a strong purpose and not just for some reason, because while studying for reason may get you to the next phase, studying with a purpose will get you to the top. Everybody wants to get awesome grades in school. Getting straight ‘A’s is the dream of every student/scholar. But all these doesnt come easy, it could though, if you have the right strategies for carrying out your mission (to be a straight ‘A’ grader).. Here are some steps that can put you through…

Effective time management: Time is one of the greatest factors each student needs to utilize. You need to be ahead of time, ’cause time waits for no man. Try doing things at the right time.. Make sure your assignments are taken care off the moment they are been given to you. Know when to go to bed and when to rise. There’s time to play and time to work hard. Don’t waste a single second of your time doing unbeneficial things because it would never help.

Study hard: This is a key factor to becoming a better student. Study hard, read books, read your textbooks, get other textbooks for better understand.. Make use of the internet. Go to the library. Be an ardent reader, because they say ‘knowledge is power’.

Choose the right company: There are sayings, ‘show me your friends and i’ll tell you who you are’ and also ‘by their fruits, we shall know them’. Try walking with the right company. Avoid bad influence, cause they corrupt good manner. Be good and stay safe.

Minimize social networking: social networking has become a menace to Nigerian students especially. Nobody wants to read, all they do is to ping, chat, etc.. Social networks like facebook, bbm, 2go, whatsapp, viber, etc were made for good things, yes… But too much of everything is bad.. Try creating time for it..

Put God first: God grants grace to we humans to always excel, putting him first doesnt make you Jew, or a ‘non-happening’ guy/girl.. Put him first in your academics and see yourself getting better grades…

I’m sure this will help every teen out there.. Be good, stay safe cause you’re important…

Goal Setting; Is It Your Thing?

What do you know about goal setting? Many of us(especially teenagers) don’t even have our goals written in black and white, tacked to a strategic place where we can see it every morning to remind us where we’re headed and to nudge us in the right direction.

We all want to succeed, that, is a fact. But have you ever asked yourself these questions:
“What are my goals?”
“What are my top three goals?”
What are the daily steps I take
towards achieving them?”
“Do I have them written on paper to remind me daily?”
If your answer to these questions mostly negative, then, I’m afraid you are floating. And if your answer to two or three of these questions are positive, then I must say your desires are weak.

Many people leave their goals in their minds, not bothering to write them down, because they think that their minds are more powerful than paper. You must know that “the shortest pencil is better than the longest memory”. When your goals are put down in black and white and are never beyond the reach of your eyes, you become motivated and eager to work towards them. When you see them, what comes to your mind is: “Geeeez, have I done this or that today towards achieving my goal?”

My father once told me that “preceding accomplishment must be a desire”, which means that before you accomplish something, you must have strongly like longed for it. You can’t afford to have a weak desire, your desire MUST be strong and very definite. For a student to wish to pass an examination is just a weak longing, but for him or her to desire to have 6 A’s in the next examination is a definite desire that can be pressed to fulfilment.

Some of us fail to set goals because we don’t know the joy and power of doing so. Don’t you know that you become stronger when you set goals and make efforts towards achieving them? Don’t you know that mere looking at your written goals motivates you? Others do not set goals because they are afraid of possible or previous failures. Do you not know that Confucius (a Chinese sage) once said “our greatest glory is not in never falling but rising every time we fall?” How do you intend to succeed when you don’t prepare to? And even if you do fail, you can always say a big NO to defeat and try again.

Though it is normal to feel sad and depressed when you don’t get what you want,it is also abnormal to stay depressed and do nothing to improve yourself. It happens a lot. I had, and still have my fair share of down moments too. I remembered when I first got 74 (B2) in a subject I was really good at, once in SS2. I felt really terrible. I felt stupid and depressed until a classmate wanted to comfort me and asked what the matter was. “I got 74 in…” I managed to say in a shaky voice. He looked at me, with his eyes wide with surprise. “Is that why you’re crying?, I got 54”. Immediately he said that, I stopped being moody and let it go. I eventually did better in the final examinations.

Now, I’m going to teach you how to set your goals. One, you MUST decide what you want from this life. Life is too short to just exist, die and be forgotten. You must decide what and how you’ll impact. It is up to you to decide, because if you don’t care what happens to your life, nobody will. Its up to you.

Second, you have to write down on a piece of paper, EVERY single dream, goal and desire that is presently IMPORTANT to you. Please note, this is no wish list, where you write things like:
i. Game console
ii. A huge bass guitar.   NO!   This is important to your life, they are goals, not actually wishes. Write down anything that you’ve ever wanted to DO, BECOME, or POSSESS. Don’t leave it in the mind.

Third, choose the top three goals (probably short-term) of the long list. Write down at least five daily actions you can do towards achieving your goal. You have to keep it mind that a huge success is simply little successes linked together.

Do not forget that your desires must be backed up with a great strength of purpose and commitment. I hope this helps you. I’d love to answer your questions if you have any.
